Hay varios métodos de pescar en la comunidad de Bameno. Lo más clásico, sino lo más tradicional, es pescar con una línea desde la canoa o a un ramo de árbol sobre el agua corriente. 

The Bameno Community has different ways of fishing. the most classic, if not the most traditional, is fishing with a line from the canoe or from a branch over the water current. 

Así se pueden tomar bagres enormes, que pueden nutrir a más familias y están particularmente buenos. Aquí a la izquierda, Mauri el piloto de canoa, che logró pescar este enorme pez. 

This is how to catch giant catfishes that can feed more families and are particularly tasty. herte on the left, Mauri the canoe pilot was able to fish this huge one.

Otro método es pescar con barbasco, un veneno producido con plantas que quita el oxígeno del agua dejando así sofocar los peces y pescaditos. Eso se lo hace en grupo, mientras pescar con la línea se solo o con dos en la canoa. 

Another way is using barbasco, a toxic substance drawn from a plant that takes the oxygen out of the water, letting big and small fish asphyxiate. This is done by more fishermen together, while fishing with a line can be done alone or by two persons on the canoe.

La caza tradicional se la hace con la cerbatana, fusil de madera de cuatro hasta cinco metros hecho con dos midades de palo de pambil. Un trabajo largo de casi un mes. Al final se juntan con lianas y cera de abeja para que no pasé el aria.

Traditional hunting is performed with a blowpipe, a 12 to 16 feet long wooden gun built with two assembled halves of palm-tree poles. A one month long hard work to carve. Eventually the two halves are stuck and sealed with lianas and beeswax.

Las flechas de 20 centímetros son de otra madera muy dura y más ligeras, fabricadas en puntas muy finas. Se las endurecen poniéndolas sobre el fuego, sin quemarlas.

The 8 inches arrows are made out of another very hard and light wood, very thin and with a very fine tip. The tip is strengthened over the fire, without being burnt. 

Después se prepara el curare, veneno extracto de unas raíces y cocido para hacer una pasta negra. Cuando la pasta está entre líquida y densa, el cazador toma cada una de la flechas y pone la punta en este veneno, antes de dejarlo a secar en el fuego. 

Then comes the preparation of curare, a venom extracted from a plant's root and cooked to form a black paste. As it gets between liquid and dense, the hunter takes every arrow and dips the tip in te venom paste, before letting it dry over the fire.  

Siendo seco y resfriado el veneno no es peligroso y se puede tocar la punta de la flecha. Es cuando penetra el animal cazado que su sangre calienta el veneno y se vuelve mortal en unos segundos. 

Once dry and cold the venom cannot hurt and one can touch the arrow tip. Only when it hits an animal and penetrates into warm blood does the venom have an immediate lethal effect.

La cerbatana es el arma utilizada para cazar a los animales que se quedan por encima de los árboles mayores, monos y aves. Los demás animales vienen cazados con la lanza, o hoy día con la carabina.  

Blowpipes are used to hunt those animals hidden on top of trees, monkeys or birds. Other wild animals are hunt with spears or a rifle.

En la orilla del rio se pueden también capturar pequenos caimanes.

On the riverside one may also catch an alligator.
